Today, Tooting Broadway stayed red, winning a local council seat by-election in the ward! Our brilliant new councillor, Sean Lawless achieved the best result for Labour, since 1986. I've worked with Sean for years and know that he will be a brilliant representative for Tooting.
Thank you for everyone that voted for Labour. Full results: Labour - 1,888 (+6.8%) Tories - 542 (+0.8%) Green Party - 261 (-5.5%) Liberal Democrats - 113 (-2.0%) Changes w./ 2022
With the nights getting longer and recent rise in crime, some people feel uncomfortable walking in public alone. I’ve launched my Safe Space campaign, where local businesses can sign up to offer a place of safety.
For businesses that would like to sign-up, head to drrosena.co.uk/safespace
It was wonderful to attend the Furzedown Project Christmas Party with a great carol performance from local children from Penwortham Primary School. Truly brilliant to see the community come together ahead of Christmas.
On Small Business Saturday, I’m at the local family-run business, Lark in Earlsfield, to showcase small businesses, who are the beating heart of our community.
This year, make sure you show our small businesses some love and buy local.
This morning, I joined pupils at Garratt Park School in Earslfield to plant the 500,000th tree of Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan's Trees for London scheme.
It's vital that we make London a green city for the future, where everyone has access to healthy outdoor space. A great time had by all at my local coffee morning, today. Pleasure to invite local residents to share a cuppa and hear about their local issues. Thanks to local organisations and the police for coming along and listening to residents.
Today, I brought together officials from Wandsworth Council and Wandsworth Police to discuss what we can do to make Tooting Broadway a safer, cleaner and more vibrant place to live and work.
Tonight, I joined with representatives of all faiths and none at the BATCA annual peace ceremony in Tooting.
Thank you to everyone for their prayers of peace. They are needed now more than ever and I am so proud to represent such a wonderful, caring community.
Today, I read out the names of the fallen and laid a wreath at St Nicholas Church in Tooting with local councillors, Rex Osborn, Kate Forbes and Kemi Akinola and members of our emergency services.
I am very pleased to see that Labour-run Wandsworth Council will be introducing a landlord licensing pilot scheme in Tooting and Furzedown. Private renters make up a significant proportion of local residents and a key part of our campaign in the local elections last year was to ensure that they get a fair deal.
This scheme will strengthen protections and rights for private tenants and I look forward to its successful trial in Tooting before a wider roll-out across the borough.
