Not many people know this about me: when I was young, due to significant childhood trauma, I had a stammer. All too often it made me too afraid to speak, for fear of being ridiculed.
People that have stammers aren't victims. Stammers are a normal part of life. Today I had such an amazing time with the ladies on Loose Women, opening up publicly about it for the first time. With greater awareness and better representation of people with stammers, we can become a society where people who are disfluent are not stigmatised. Great as always to catch up with my friend Denise Welch. And shout out to Adam Alexander in Tooting for my new, fresh hair colour.
Visiting Earlsfield Primary, I saw first-hand how universal free school meals are working to produce a level playing field in schools and provide all children with a delicious and nutritious lunch.
Lunch should never be a struggle for families or a time of stress and stigma for children – and Labour Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s funding means it won’t be here in London. The verdict from the judges that matter: the Red Velvet cake with beetroot was a hit.
It was an absolute pleasure to take part in Wimbledon Sustainable Fashion Week with Wimbledon Go Inspire. I was so inspired by the incredible panel talking about sustainable fashion. I even got to wear some incredible sustainable knitwear. With 80 prison officers unavailable on the day Daniel Khalife escaped from Wandsworth Prison - it beggars belief that he was even allowed to work in the kitchen. The Government need to explain themselves. This morning, I've been out and about in Tooting with Wandsworth Police Officers. We've been talking to residents who are concerned about rising street drinking and anti-social behaviour.
Together we're now working to increase the number of patrols in the area and ensure that resident's concerns are being addressed. London to Brighton? Completed it.
Fleur Anderson and I absolutely smashed a 55-mile bike ride, raising money for the brilliant St George's Hospital Charity. I can't believe just how challenging it was and I want to thank everyone who helped us to smash our fundraising target. You can still donate here Today, I've been speaking about the very serious concerns I have regarding the prisoner escape from Wandsworth Prison. The Government need to provide answers regarding how this was allowed to happen. With schools crumbling, our prisons falling apart, and the NHS on it's knees, you can't trust the Tories with the NHS. Lovely to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon with local Labour members playing rounders and enjoying a picnic.
