Together with my friend and colleague Marsha De Cordova, Labour MP for Battersea, I attended the Viva Palestina Supper Club to raise funds for the Medical Aid for Palestinians charity.
The food and company were both excellent and all proceeds raised went towards a very worthy cause. If you are able to donate, please do visit the Medical Aid for Palestinians website here.
This morning, I invited residents from Tooting to share a cup of tea and a biscuit at my local coffee morning. As the local MP, I am here to help and my door is always open.
I was thrilled to join Dermot O'Leary and Josie Gibson for the health segment on This Morning today to talk about working as an emergency doctor in the NHS and when to seek help.
Yes, A&E departments are under huge strain and pressure, but always remember - if you need help, we are here.
After more than a year of waiting, the Government has finally responded to the Joint Committee report on the draft Mental Health Bill.
In that time, they kicked mental health into the long grass while patients continued to suffer. The Government response is poor - rejecting vital calls for a Mental Health Commissioner, refusing to ban discriminatory Community Treatment Orders and ignoring a right to culturally appropriate advocacy. Why make us wait so long and not provide any meaningful change? With waiting lists higher than ever, we need bold action on mental health. It is clear the Tories are simply not up to the job. A Labour Government must bring forward mental health reform with the recommendations of the committee at its core.
Today, I joined Politics Live to discuss the Tories' botched Rwanda plan. The policy is an inhumane, unworkable gimmick - now they have blocked plans to protect victims of human trafficking and individuals who have supported our armed forces.
It's all done to appease the right of the party.
Today's announcement by NHS England that children's cancer services will be moved away from the world-class unit at St George's Hospital is profoundly disappointing.
As a doctor, I am clear that this decision has not been made in the interests of patients or their families and we're losing more than 25 years of expertise in the field of children's cancer care. I'm calling on the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Victoria Atkins to immediately review this decision.
There was a huge turnout today for the Oxfam Lobby Day event calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. I was proud to join other MPs and charities calling for an unconditional, immediate ceasefire.
Thank you to the charities who helped support it and to all attendees, who brought a powerful energy to the room.
Tonight, I joined Robert Peston on ITV alongside Conservative MP, Paul Scully, Government Minister, Kevin Hollinrake and environmental campaigner, Fergal Sharkey to discuss the hot topics of the day. We chatted about the appalling comments made by a Tory donor about Diane Abbott and extremism in the UK.
Every corner of Wandsworth thrives with culture and creativity. Our art, food and history are what makes our community great.
That's why I'm so proud that Wandsworth has been selected as London's Borough of Culture in 2025. Thanks to everyone who has worked to make this happen.
Sending my best wishes to everyone in Tooting and around the world. I hope you have a blessed Ramadan.
Special thoughts and prayers going to Palestinians and all Muslims around the world enduring hardship and suffering at this time. |
