It is incredible to see the work being done in Wandsworth Town Hall by the new Labour council. Recently, it was announced that free school meals would be available during school holidays for eligible children, while parents of pupils on free school meals will also have access to uniform vouchers to help cover this expense. With the Tory cost-of-living crisis, this is a hugely beneficial scheme for hard-working families across the borough.
This is the difference that Labour makes in power and I look forward to continued close cooperation with the new council administration in order to make our communities even better places to live. For further details, see here. In September, I’ll be taking on the London to Brighton cycle along with Fleur Anderson, MP for Putney. We’re fundraising as part of the Time for a Change appeal to help support St George’s Hospital Charity in their work to provide assistance to patients, their families, and the staff who care for them across St George’s Hospital, Queen Mary’s Hospital, and community sites.
It’s a 55-mile route from Clapham to Brighton, and we’ll be joined by other fantastic #TeamGeorges participants. Neither of us have done this before and it’s a big challenge for us. The Time for a Change Appeal is supporting children’s services at St George’s Hospital. We know that St George's Trust provides absolutely outstanding care for patients and incredible support for families, but sadly the facilities often don’t reflect this level of care. All too often, children are stuck on long waiting lists for mental health treatment and thousands of people are having their referrals closed before an appointment.
This Tory Government caused the crisis in mental health services - when will they fix it?
On the 75th birthday of the NHS, I joined the amazing team at St George’s Hospital, to say, a big thank you for the incredible care and compassion they show every day. I'm proud to work side-by-side with the team.
One of the most important jobs I do as your local Member of Parliament is ensuring that our wonderful communities in Balham, Earlsfield, Furzedown, Tooting and Wandsworth Common remain safe and welcoming places to live.
To this end, I have recently hosted public meetings with local police leadership in Balham and Furzedown, conducted a walkaround with the Borough Superintendent around the local area, and written to the police on behalf of local residents on a wide range of issues. Please do let me know if you have any concerns regarding crime issues in the local area - my door is always open. |
