Having grown up in Tooting and now raising my own children here, I have seen over the many years our diverse communities in Tooting come together to support each other both in times of need and in times of celebration.
I was pleased to organise a Peace Vigil outside Tooting Broadway today so that our community could stand together and join in hope for our future.
I will always work to ensure our community feels united and safe.
I believe everyone was shocked and saddened by the events in West London and the Grenfell Tower fire. My thoughts are with those caught up in the fire, their friends and family and the local community. My thanks goes out to the fire fighters who risked their own lives to save others, the police for their extensive work in the area and the Hospitals who treated the injured. Many within these services worked longer than they should in a dangerous environment; for that I will always be thankful.
Yet again, Tooting's community came together and within hours multiple groups set up donation centres and transported a large amount of supplies to those affected by the fire.
