At Labour Conference today we had a very important debate on racism in football. Whilst the methods of abuse may have developed, it is still very much present in the 2019 game. I would 100% back a player or team if they took the decision to walk off the pitch in protest. I believe that our clubs, media and leagues must also do the same. Thank you to Paul Parker, Troy Townsend, Darren Lewis, Marcus Gayle, Ged Grebby and Paul Elliott for taking part. I am so proud that Tooting Labour is today moving the motion for Labour to unequivocally back Remain. Sending a huge thank you to our delegates who are taking our local position to the national stage. Update: Simon Hannah of Tooting CLP (and Unison) wins lots of cheers for declaring to the conference hall: "We need to say it loud and clear: we are a Remain party! Leavers think we are Remainers and Remainers think we don't know what we are talking about". We’re proudly-Remain and not afraid to say it! Today the official Parliamentary Women's football team got together for our first away game, playing Lewes FC Women Vets. It was a blistering game, if I do say so myself. With team mates from across the political spectrum, we really have come a long way in such a short space of time. I'm honoured to be part of such an inspirational group of women. Tooting Labour members have been voting all day on who should be the candidate for the next General Election. The final branch meeting took place today for my re-selection and I’m honoured that every ward has supported me. Affiliates to be counted, but I’m delighted to be backed by @GMB Union, UNISON and others. With an election coming, volunteer here: https://drrosena.nationbuilder.com I strongly support the climate strike that is taking place in London, across the UK and around the world today. I want to assure you that I will continue to hold the Government to account on this issue. We are experiencing a climate emergency - the Government must act. I am determined to be a part of the solution to protect our oceans, our environment and our ecosystems for the generations to come. In solidarity with everyone striking for the climate today. Today I had the pleasure of visiting Graveney School in Furzedown to speak with the GCSE Citizenship and A-Level Politics students. Let's just say they certainly had me on my toes. We talked Brexit (of course), climate change, and challenges facing our young people today to name but a few. We certainly got into it - but I think I may be “slipped” for my use of language when asked what I thought of the current PM. 😬 Tooting elected me to do a job, so tonight I asked the Government to stop playing games and allow me to do it: Our community, and our country, deserve better. Not only was I one of the petitioners in the case in which it was ruled that prorogation is unlawful, tonight I spoke up in Parliament about why exactly it is wrong. The Prime Minister, with his unlawful actions, is silencing democracy. You can watch the video here: twitter.com/i/status/1171174805250420737 Tonight it just so happened that I had invited residents to Parliament to talk about Brexit and my support for remaining in the EU. And on such a monumental day too... MPs, well into the late hours, took the first steps towards stopping Boris Johnson's No-Deal Brexit. Back in our room, there was great discussion, and Ed Milliband MP even popped by to say a few words. Thanks to all who took part. Here's a sneak peek at my latest campaign. If you live in Tooting and are pro-Remain, sign my petition against Brexit: https://www.drrosena.co.uk/brexit.html Once we get to 10,000 signatures, I will deliver it to Downing Street. Join me and let's send a message to Boris Johnson. We reject his politics of division; we reject him shutting down Parliament; and we reject his Brexit plans. We are pro-Remain and proudly European! |
