Bring Crossrail 2 to Tooting Broadway

I recently met with the Head of Crossrail 2 and put forward the case for Tooting Broadway.

There are huge regeneration and economic development benefits that Crossrail 2 would bring to Tooting Broadway, new jobs created and boost our local economy. The opportunity to build hundreds of genuinely affordable homes would help many local residents, many, like me who are having to rent because we have very little chance of owning our own home.
 
Balham has already seen the benefits of regeneration, it has a strong local economy and the upheaval building a new station would cause, is something local residents have voiced many concerns about.
 
The transport benefit is also greater. Tooting Broadway is already overcrowded at peak times, despite a regular Northern Line service. Building a Crossrail 2 station here would enable direct access to Wimbledon and Clapham Junction, and offer many new routes into central London – cutting journey times and easing congestion.

Unfortunately, after reviewing the plans it became clear that we would lose half of Tooting Market - we can’t let this happen. I’ve written to the Mayor and the Crossrail 2 team demanding they look at other options. Tooting Market is a wonderful community asset - we can’t afford to lose it.
