Today it was a real treat to return to Nightingale House in Balham and spend some time with the residents here. I got to try out my baking skills with Anne. But I think I might have to come back for some more practice. And a huge happy birthday to Phyllis who turns 100 soon! Thank you all for such a lovely afternoon. And congratulations on your recognition as the Jewish Community's first ever 'Outstanding' care home.

Today is historic: I am overjoyed to be taking part in the London Pride Parade with the FA. And it's their first time too. This year also marks 50 years since the Stonewall Riots. As you may know, the riots in 1969 were a landmark moment in history, which helped spark the fight for gay rights around the world. This is such a positive step for football; it sends such a wonderful message. Proud to be involved with Pride! A group of us women MPs, journalists and politicos from across the political divide headed to Lyon, coming together for an an amazing cause: the pursuit of gender equality. We played in 40 degree heat to break the world record for the biggest ever football match. 3,000 players, five whole days, and one goal - to prove that any girl can! Well, that and the world record... I was contacted by concerned residents in their droves about the welfare of Nazanin and her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, following news of their ongoing hunger strike. Today I met Richard on day 12 of his hunger strike. He is such a humble and gentle person, despite everything his family is going through. We must Free Nazanin. Taken through senseless violence which could have been avoided if we had adequate policing, proper youth provision and gave our young people a sense of hope." Today I asked the Prime Minister, Teresa May, if she will use her remaining days in office to leave a legacy which will change the paths of our young people, or whether we can expect more of the same. You can watch Mrs May's response here: twitter.com/DrRosena/status/1141320662767812608 As you can probably tell, today I had a lot of fun judging the best annual dog show in town. It is by far one of my favourite events of the year - and I must admit, getting to hang out with these cuddly pooches is a refreshing change to a day in Parliament. Thank you to all those involved, and to Leonie Cooper for her skillful compering. As you may know, the Dump the Scales campaign is the work of one of our very own Tooting residents, Hope Virgo. Following Hope's experience of being turned away from services for not being "thin" enough, the campaign was born. But this didn't happen to just Hope; it happens to hundreds of people weekly across the NHS. Over a million people in the UK have suffered from an eating disorder at some point in their life, but many are not properly diagnosed because they are told by GPs they are not under or overweight enough. Today I signed the open letter urging the Government to revisit the issue and their approach to the management and treatment of eating disorders. You can add your name to the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/eating-disorders-are-not-just-about-weight-dumpthescales Tonight the UK Women's Parliamentary Football Club (aka the ultimate ladies squad) played their first ever match at Battersea Park. Crawley Old Girls may have got the better of us - it was a 3-2 thriller - but we had the most fabulous time. It was all about incredible women enjoying football, and having fun at the same time. Cross-party, all ages, all abilities, bonding over a love of the game. I visited the West Bank and Jerusalem recently and spoke on BBC Radio 4 about the cruel and inhumane permit system which means children in hospital can't be accompanied by their parents. This premature baby's mother had to return to Gaza after giving birth to triplets. Sadly, two of the babies died in hospital. Their parents were told over the phone. Only this week was the mother issued a permit to collect her baby - months after she was ready to go home. To read the full thread: https://twitter.com/i/status/1134377660224888833 |
