Clean Up Tooting

The Council are not taking the issue of littering and fly-tipping seriously enough. This is why I consulted with local residents and we've come up with five proposals which will help make our streets cleaner and greener. These are:
  • Better street cleaning
  • CCTV in hot-spots
  • Under pavement bins
  • Phone box removal
  • Improved communication

I had a great time this morning with Balham Ballers at their Summer Camp.

Coaches Ize and Courtney put me and the team through our paces - providing encouragement and feedback whilst we got stuck in to a friendly 5-a-side. They certainly know their football, and we all had an absolute blast!

I'll be back soon for that rematch!

"I said what about...breakfast at Jefferson's"

It was a real treat to meet Celine and the team at Jefferson's today.

Celine talked me through the multitude of tasty menu offerings and gave me a sneak peek into the ice cream making process. This new Balham business is really putting natural ingredients, quality products and sterling service at the heart of all they do.

Better yet, they will be serving hot breakfasts from September. If you need me, you know where I'll be!

Thank you to Victor and all the staff at Ronald Gibson House for inviting me to join them at their Summer Fete today.

Visiting this care home set in the beautiful grounds of Springfield Hospital is always a pleasure - the care the team here give and the dignity with which they treat their elderly residents is truly wonderful.

Yet another shining example of compassion in the Tooting community.

People and businesses across the UK are worried what Brexit will mean for them. I took The Independent around Tooting to speak to local residents. I stood up for the UK under Theresa May, and I will not hesitate to do so again under Boris Johnson.

This week it was a pleasure to meet with Sharon Barli again at the Israeli Embassy. We were able to continue our constructive discussion about access to healthcare for Palestinians.

I look forward to continuing to work together on such crucial humanitarian issues.

I have no doubt there will be more news to follow...

David, a local resident, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 70 years ago - shortly after our beloved NHS was founded.

Today I was delighted to attend St George's Hospital and present David with a medal honouring his achievement. It was great to spend time with David, his wife Ann, the team, and guide dog Jules.

We also made sure to recognise David's contribution to the community, where he worked until he was 75. He's a real inspiration.

Meeting Mount Carmel

Today I had an inspiring meeting with Mount Carmel, an alcohol treatment centre.

The team here provide a safe and supportive environment for men and women with serious alcohol problems, including residential programmes, day programmes, and detox management.

With cuts hitting our public services, treatment centres across the UK closing at an alarming rate, and need increasing, accessing support for alcoholism is all the more difficult. I am looking forward to supporting their incredible work - watch this space.

Today I had the real honour of officially declaring the new Chestnut Grove Academy buildings open.

Having recently undergone a multi-million pound building programme, students and teachers will now reap the rewards of a super modern building and facilities, complete with an outstanding sports hall.

Chestnut Grove is a shining example of a school that puts its pupils and families first - this week we were all "PROUD".
