The incredible team at Wandsworth Food Bank work tirelessly to support families across our community. Their work is a genuine lifeline, ensuring no one has to go without. Right now, with so many struggling to put food on the table, their service is more vital than ever.
This Christmas, they have launched an appeal to help local families. Your generosity can make a world of difference. Please consider donating if you are able. Every contribution goes directly towards helping a neighbour in need and shows the very best of our community’s spirit. Donate here! Wishing everyone across Tooting, and all those celebrating around the world, a very Merry Christmas.
Wherever you are, I wish you all comfort, joy, and hope this Christmas. A busy shift today at St George’s A&E is a powerful reminder of the dedication of NHS staff. While many of us enjoy a well-earned break with loved ones, thousands of doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, porters, and cleaners are working tirelessly across the country. They sacrifice precious time with their families to be there for us in our moments of need.
Through my own shifts, I see this incredible commitment firsthand. To every single person keeping our health service running this Christmas and New Year, thank you. Your unwavering compassion and professionalism saves lives.
It was fantastic to join the brilliant Tooting Run Club for their festive event. The energy and sense of community were absolutely infectious, with everyone full of Christmas cheer. Seeing so many people come together truly highlights the wonderful spirit we have here in Tooting. Community groups like this are a lifeline, supporting both our physical and mental health. A huge thank you to the organisers for putting on such a joyful event for our community The scenes of senseless violence from Bondi were utterly appalling and my heart goes out to all those affected.
Today, I took my daughters to Australia House to sign the book of condolence. It was our opportunity to pay respects and stand in solidarity with the victims, their families, and the entire community. In the face of such unimaginable tragedy, we must always stand united against vile hatred and antisemitism. Love will always triumph over prejudice. The UN backing our calls to integrate mental health support with care for non-communicable diseases is a landmark moment. I have always campaigned tirelessly for parity of esteem between physical and mental health.
Earlier this year, I worked with legislators globally to produce a report on this very issue. I am incredibly proud that our collaborative campaigning has culminated in an UN resolution backing our recommendations. The incredible team at Little Village HQ are a lifeline for so many families across Tooting. It was inspiring to visit them again and see the amazing support they provide.
Right now, they urgently need specific items: toothpaste, brushes, sanitary pads, sleeping bags for babies (0-6 months), and toddler bed sheets. If you are able to help, please drop any donations at their hub on Tooting High Street. Our community's generosity can ensure no family goes without the basics. Huge congratulations to Andrea Egan on her election as the new General Secretary of UNISON. Her leadership comes at a critical time for our public services. Standing up for workers' rights is essential for building a stronger, better-funded NHS where staff are valued and patients are safe.
I look forward to working closely with Andrea to champion our public sector workers and fight for the future of our health service. I have today raised the case of the Palestine Action hunger strikers in Parliament, asking David Lammy, the Justice Secretary, to provide an update on their condition.
