Calling out President Trump

24/9/2025

President Donald Trump's recent comments regarding Sadiq Khan and our city are simply a disgrace. His understanding of our diverse capital seems confined to journeys between his private jet and luxury hotels.

In London, particularly in Tooting, we celebrate our rich diversity and firmly reject any form of Islamophobia. My community thrives on inclusivity and mutual respect. I will always stand up for these fundamental values that define our vibrant home and oppose those who seek to divide us.

In New York for UN General Assembly

24/9/2025

I travelled to New York for the UN General Assembly, where I presented a report I authored alongside legislators from around the world, the G20 Partnership, and representatives from the World Health Organisation on the interplay between mental illness and noncommunicable disease.

Together, we developed a crucial toolkit. This resource provides governments with actionable strategies to effectively address mental health challenges and combat non-communicable diseases. It was vital work, reflecting my commitment to health, both in Tooting and globally.

Recognition of Palestine

22/9/2025

I was profoundly moved to witness the flag-raising ceremony at the newly renamed Embassy of the State of Palestine.

It was an honour to stand alongside Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zomlot. This moment, celebrating the recognition of the State of Palestine, filled me with a deep sense of hope for the future. I believe we must always champion freedom and human rights globally, and this step is a vital part of that ongoing commitment.

Visit to Fircroft School

19/9/2025

Today, I was proud to visit Fircroft School and meet local students. They asked some really insightful questions on how Parliament functions, my route to becoming a doctor and shared their ideas on how to make our fantastic community even better!

Coffee Morning

18/9/2025

Today, I was thrilled to host local residents at my coffee morning.

Over tea, coffee, and biscuits, we openly discussed what makes our community special. We also focused on practical steps to make it even better for everyone in Tooting. It was inspiring to hear so many thoughtful contributions.

I am incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and shared their valuable views and ideas to improve our area.

Hillsborough Law

16/9/2025

The smears Hillsborough victims’ families faced were unacceptable and must not happen again. It is right that the Government is taking action to ensure a similar situation cannot be repeated.

The new Hillsborough Law will mean:
  • New Duty of Candour - public officials must act with honesty and integrity at all times
  • The largest expansion of legal aid in a decade for bereaved families
  • A new offence for misleading the public – with criminal sanctions for the most serious breaches

Du Cane Court Meeting

12/9/2025

Picture
Du Cane Court is one of Balham’s most iconic buildings. For too long residents have faced challenges with upkeep and maintenance from the building’s management company.

I have arranged a series of meetings for residents and leaseholders to engage with the freeholder directly and raise their concerns. I am continuing to work with local councillors to push the freeholders to follow through on their commitments to improve services.

30 hours free child care

9/9/2025

The Government are pushing to help parents and get all kids ready for school. From September, families will receive 30 hours of government-funded childcare for children over 9 months.  Parents often tell me how crippling nursery fees can be and I am pleased that this policy was introduced so quickly by the Government. This measure will save families around Tooting up to £1,200 a month, making life easier for parents.
