It was incredible to watch the Lionesses bring home the Euros for a second successive tournament. It was amazing to see the excitement around the country for women’s sport and the celebrations following their success. Seeing the Lionesses conquer all gives children real inspiration to achieve their dreams!
Today I brought together representatives from Wandsworth Council and our local police team to Tooting Bec on a walkabout followed by a roundtable meeting to discuss some of the issues facing the community. We all love the community we call home, and I want it to be better. That is why we were discussing how we can combat fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.
Today, I voted against the Government’s Bill on welfare reforms.
I believe there is scope to reform the current welfare system and I am supportive of various aspects of the Government's proposals, such as allowing people to try working without losing out. I also welcome the concessions made by the Government and will follow the legislation carefully at the next reading. While much of what the Government has announced in recent days - and indeed today - is welcome, the Bill as it is remains the same and has not been amended yet. I want to see an amended Bill before deciding whether it is possible to support it. The next vote is next week and I will follow it closely. |
